in Wales was the site of Susan Williams-Ellis' first shop in the 1960’s.
With her reputation for originality, her china soon became collectable,
leading to the acquisition of two small pottery firms.

Portmerion Botanic Garden china and Portmerion Pomona china
patterns are made of two types of ceramic depending on their
function:
Stoneware - This vitreous (non-porous) china has been
designed to perform satisfactorily at the higher range of temperatures
that are normally employed for cooking. Portmerion Stoneware is capable,
therefore, of being used at oven temperatures of up to 200 degrees
centigrade and is used to manufacture all cookware.
Earthenware -
This china will perform satisfactorily at the lower range of temperatures
normally employed for cooking. Portmerion Earthenware is capable of being
used at oven temperatures of up to 170 degrees centigrade and is used on
the majority of dinnerware.
Portmeirion dinnerware care and use:
- Try to heat items gradually.
- Don't take items directly from a freezer and place them into a hot oven.
- Don't place empty ware into a hot oven.
- Don't place the ware onto a direct source of heat such as might be found on a hob.
