Brand > Robbe & Berking
Robbe & Berking was founded in Flensburg by Nicolaus Christoph Robbe in 1864. He was joined in 1897 by the very talented Robert Berking who married his daughter and acquired 50 percent of the company's shares. Tragically, Robert died at the age of 35 and the company was run by his widow, her father and her brother Arnold until Theodor Berking, their eldest son, was old enough to take over the business.
Theodor turned the company into one of northern Germany's best silversmiths and although the market for silver cutlery collapsed during the Second World War, Theodor kept the business going by manufacturing military crosses. Despite being in the Soviet occupied zone, Robbe & Berking grew and in 1958 Theodor's son Robert took over the management of the company. Robert converted the business from a local company to Europe's largest silver manufacturer, extending the ranges from cutlery to include table accessories and gifts. Today many of these ranges are recognised by world experts to be masterpieces of design and manufacture.
Oliver Berking is the fifth generation of the family to run the business and despite the trend for outsourcing manufacturing to other countries, Oliver has ensured that all Robbe & Berking silver is still made in Flensburg, Germany. Renowned for the finest craftsmanship, all Robbe & Berking ranges may be personalised. They are dishwasher safe and are guaranteed to be available until 2040.
