Portmeirion Pottery was started by Susan Williams-Ellis who opened a gift shop in the Italianate Village of Portmeirion in Wales during the 1960’s and began selling pottery that she had designed herself to compliment the village. With her reputation for originality, her china soon became collectable, leading to the acquisition of two small pottery firms. In 1972 she designed Portmeirion Botanic Garden china, which soon became a world wide best seller. Portmeirion regularly produces new dinnerware patterns, such as Pomona, some of which are now designed by Susan’s daughters.
