John Rocha

John Rocha was born in Hong Kong to Chinese and Portuguese parents, and when he married an Irish girl, he settled in Dublin.

He was the first fashion designer to work with Waterford, and his first design was a motif symbolising a Celtic cross fused with a Chinese brushstroke, set on plain glass.

What began as an initial production run of 5,000 glasses in 1997 has now reached sales of “hundreds of thousands” and the Signature range by John Rocha at Waterford remains a bestseller. The Black Cut collection proved a challenge to the production team but this too has been hugely successful, particularly in the States.
